Why Temples?

Hinduism is an ancient religion which has stood the test of time and onslaughts. It has continued its existence as the singularly and statistically biggest and oldest religion in India. But now it meets the misfortune of being neglected by its own followers. This is due to the fact that there is a lack of proper understanding of its tenets and principles.

Numerous rites and rituals followed in the Hindu religion are full of scientific meaning and reason. The Hindu religion and culture are centred round the temple culture. Our temples have been used over the years as ''centres of excellence" for education, scientific study, fine arts, architecture and structural engineering. Above all, these temples are the centres which offer infinite peace to the mind of man.

Hindu temples act as bridges linking both science and philosophy- Science sees many in one and philosophy sees one in many, philosophy is the unifying symbol in a world of disintegrated values.

The present generation, which is growing with the age of science and technology, has started questioning the age-old concepts. For example, why worship at the temple? Why not at home? Why spend so much money on poojas? These questions must be answered with scientific explanations.

Most of us do not know the significance of the sanctum-sanctorum (Garbagriha or Moolasthana) of a Hindu temple which is built as per the agama texts of the Hindu religion. There is always a relation between the size of the idol and the size of the sanctum-sanctorum. Because of this the air column inside the sanctum-sanctorum resonates to the sound "OM" (Pranava Mantra). When this "OM" is chanted inside the sanctum-sanctorum, resonance occurs. Each air molecule inside the sanctum-sanctorum vibrates with maximum amplitude, thereby producing intense sound.

One must know the speciality of the materials used for abhisheka (ritual bathing of the idol). The greater the pH value of the materials, the lesser the Ha ion content ratio is, in other words, the greater the negative ion concentration. So, an increase of pH indicates an increase in the negative ion concentration. It is noteworthy that abhisheka is done with kumkum, turmeric, sandal water, milk etc., which have a high pH value and hence a high negative ion concentration.

Why do we insist on regular worship through repeated abhisheka, aradhana (homage) etc.? The fact that the dry stone has high electrical resistance and very little conductivity, shows that repeated abhisheka, aradhana, etc., are essential to maintain the electrical charges in the sanctum-sanctorum. The yantras or sri-chakras kept under the idol act as capacitors of electrical charges.

Why do we use only certain selected leaves and fruits for pooja offering? The neem leaf has high electrical conductivity and is used by the priests of Kali temples. Lime fruit offers little resistance to electrical current and so is a good conductor. For the same reason, mango leaves and tulsi are used during festival times. Ordinary grass offers very high resistance to electrical current and so is not offered for pooja.

Thus we find that repeated abhisheka, archana, etc., creates negative ions inside the sanctum-sanctorum. These negative ions are essential to fix the oxygen with haemoglobin. It has been proved that animals die in an atmosphere deprived of negative ions. These negative ions are found more on the seashore, near waterfalls and on hill stations which are considered as health resorts. This explains why our forefathers selected the seashores, tops of hills, and areas near waterfalls for the construction of temples, for example, Tiruchendur, Rameswaram and Kanyakumari are on the seashore, Palani and Tirupati are on top of hills and Courtallam is a temple near waterfalls.

In these days of electrical pollution, people suffer from lack of negative ions. The negative ions are created inside the sanctum-sanctorum during abhisheka. Then the idol is decorated with sandal paste, silken cloth and fresh flowers. All these help to retain the moisture content of the air. During archana (invocation), mantras are chanted, and these set the air inside the sanctum-sanctorum in vibration with maximum energy.

Archana is followed by "lighted camphor". The process of different arathis displaces the air from the sanctum-sanctorum to the worshippers. They inhale the air with the negative ions, and their O2 being good gets a favourable condition for fixing oxygen with haemoglobin. In general the sanctum-sanatorium acts as a volume resonator, the idol with its peedarn as an energy reservoir, worshippers as receivers, and the air inside as a medium for the transfer of energy.

Reduce your belly

தொப்பையை குறைக்க வழி;

* உடல் எடையை குறைக்க சரியான வழி காலை உணவை தவிர்ப்பது அல்ல. ஏனெனில் காலை உணவு தான் அன்றைய தினத்திற்கு ஏற்ற எனர்ஜியை தருகிறது. அவற்றை தவிர்த்தால், உடல் நலம் தான் பாதிக்கப்படும். பின் எப்போது பார்த்தாலும் சாப்பிட்டுக் கொண்டே இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று தோன்றும். ஆகவே மறக்காமல் காலை வேளையில் மறவாமல் ஏதேனும் ஆரோக்கியமானவற்றை சாப்பிட வேண்டும்.

* பானை போன்ற வயிறை குறைக்க, மற்ற வழிகளை விட சிறந்தது உடற்பயிற்சி தான். அதிலும் நடைப்பயிற்சி தான் சிறந்தது. ஆகவே காலையில் எழுந்ததும் தினமும் குறைந்தது 30 நிமிடமாவது நடந்தால் நல்லது. இதனால் உடல் மற்றும் தொடையில் இருக்கும், தேவையற்ற கலோரிகள் கரைந்துவிடும்.

* எடையைக் குறைக்க தேன் ஒரு சிறந்த மருத்துவப் பொருள். ஆகவே காலையில் எழுந்ததும், ஒரு டம்ளர் நீரில் 2 டீஸ்பூன் எலுமிச்சை சாறு, 1 டீஸ்பூன் தேன் மற்றும் சிறிது மிளகு தூள் சேர்த்து, தினமும் குடிக்க வேண்டும்.

* காரமான உணவுப் பொருட்களான இஞ்சி, மிளகு, இலவங்கப்பட்டை போன்றவையும் மிகவும் சிறந்தது. அதிலும் தினமும் இஞ்சி டீயை 2-3 முறை குடிக்க வேண்டும். இது உடல் பருமனைக் குறைக்கும் சிறந்த பொருள்.

* இரண்டு டீஸ்பூன் எலுமிச்சை சாற்றை சாதாரண நீரில் குடித்து வந்தால், உடல் எடை குறையும். மேலும் சாப்பிட்டப் பிறகு ஒரு டம்ளர் சூடான நீரை குடித்து வந்தால், இயற்கையாகவே உடல் எடை குறைந்துவிடும்.

* உடல் எடையை குறைக்க டயட்டில் இருக்கும் போது பச்சை காய்கறிகள், தக்காளி மற்றும் கேரட் போன்ற கலோரி குறைவான, ஆனால் அதிக வைட்டமின் மற்றும் கனிமச்சத்துக்கள் உள்ள உணவுகளை அதிகம் சாப்பிட வேண்டும். இதனை அதிகம் சாப்பிட்டு வந்தால், உடல் ஆரோக்கியமாக இருப்பதோடு, உடல் எடையும் விரைவில் குறையும், அதிக பசியும் எடுக்காமல் இருக்கும்.

* தொடர்ந்து 3-4 மாதங்கள், காலையில் எழுந்ததும் 10 கறிவேப்பிலையை சாப்பிட வேண்டும். இதனால் பெல்லி குறைந்து, அழகான இடுப்பைப் பெறலாம்.

* எப்போதும் உணவு உண்ணும் முன் ஒரு துண்டு இஞ்சியை, எலுமிச்சை சாறு மற்றும் உப்பில் தொட்டு சாப்கிட வேண்டும். இதனால் அதிகமான அளவு உணவை உண்ணாமல், கட்டுப்பாட்டுடன் உணவை உண்ணலாம்.

Indian Tea

  •     Tea bushes were discovered growing wild in Assam in 1836
  •     12 chests of tea were sent as the very first shipment to London in 1839
  •     First tea auction was held in India in 1861
  •     India became the largest exporter of tea to Britain in 1899

The teas of India like its regions and the people who live there. Very interesting concept…

Assam: The Strong One “If strength is your weakness, Assam is your tea”
  •     The teas are like the people: bold, robust, harsh and aggressive
  •     Birth place of Indian Teas
  •     Worlds single largest tea growing region
  •     Worlds most used tea
  •     900,000,000 lbs of tea is produced yearly
  •     Is a very large leaf like the teas in Yunnan, China

Darjeeling: The Exotic One
  •     Known as the Champagne of Teas
  •     The people of Darjeeling are peaceful, are low spoken, soft and feel like they live in Nirvana on top of the world
  •     80 + tea gardens located in the misty section of North-East India
  •     Himalaya Mountains
  •     Borders Nepal
  •     7500 ft elevation
    1st Flush is called “Easter Flush”
  •         Europe/Germany are the largest buyers of 1st flush teas but Japan is showing strong interest as well
  •         Flavors are often vegetal, green, mild, and astringent
    2nd Flush (Spring)
  •         Rains start to arrive until June/July
  •         Some of the best Darjeelings are produced during this time of year
  •         The green leaf hopper (similar to Taiwan) is part of what makes Darjeeling have the muscatel flavor
  •         Very attractive tea with purplish browns, greens and silver tips
  •         Coppery infused leaf has a penny color like a fine wine
    Monsoon Flush
  •         Rain teas, produced and picked every 4 days
  •         Enormous leaf
  •         Produced from Mid-July to October
  •         Has more color and strength then other flushes
  •         More abundant and often used in blends
    Autumnal Flush
  •         Light copper, brownish with a malty aroma
  •         Produced late October – November

Nilgiri (Blue Mountains): The Forgiving One
  •     First teas planted in 1859
  •     Like the people of South India: intelligent and peaceful
  •     You can’t over steep a Nilgiri tea
  •     One of the best teas to use to make a chai concentrate
  •     Less tannins and doesn’t cloud which makes it perfect for iced tea
  •     Has overtones of a 2nd Flush Darjeeling but cost is less
  •     8500 ft altitude and grown year round but best time is Oct – Mar
  •     Nilgiri is the only Communist state left in India

Which tea region do you most associate with? Are you a bold Assam character? Are you more gentle like a Darjeeling? More forgiving like a cup of tea from the Nilgiri region? Something to think about as you brew that magical cup of Indian tea.

Sip tea. Feel Happy!

Prepare Tooth Powder of your own

Do it yourself tooth powder that is GOOD for you and naturally whitens your teeth ❥➥❥ Peppermint Sage Tooth Powder

Makes ½ cup of tooth powder
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons bentonite clay
2 tablespoons baking soda
1 tablespoon dried, finely ground sage leaf
1 tablespoon xylitol (optional, for adding sweetness)
½ tablespoon pure sea salt
15-20 drops peppermint essential oil

ACTION:
* Combine dry ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly with a non-metal spoon. Drip essential oils into the mixture and stir well to combine. Transfer to a small container or jar with a tight fitting lid. Particles of the tooth powder are fine enough that a small squirt bottle like this can also be used (as long as you don’t get the squirt-tip wet, which will cause clogging). Note: Bentonite clay loses its beneficial properties when it comes into contact with metal, so it’s best to use plastic or glass when mixing and storing your tooth powder
* To brush with tooth powder, simply dip your toothbrush into the powder, or carefully squirt some onto a wet toothbrush. Brush teeth as usual. Follow with homemade moutwash if desired
* Note: If using the dip method to get powder onto your toothbrush, you may want to consider giving each family member his/her own container.

Benefits of ingredients

Bentonite clay – This natural clay has the unique ability to bind to toxins in the body. It is especially useful in eliminating toxins from heavy metals in your mouth, like mercury from mercury fillings. This clay will never bind to any of the beneficial elements in your body. Bentonite clay is also rich in minerals that can nourish teeth and gums.

Baking soda – This ingredient has been a trusted tooth cleanser long before it was added to the tubes you’ll see on store shelves. Baking soda gently polishes teeth and naturally whitens your smile. This chart, which shows the Abrasiveness Index of some common brands of toothpaste, lists baking soda as less abrasive than most commercial toothpastes.

Sage – Sage has been recognized by many cultures for its natural tooth-whitening abilities. Known for its astringent properties, sage is perfect for oral health and whitening discolored teeth.

Xylitol – This ingredient is optional, but can be added to sweeten the finished product. Research has shown that xylitol has many benefits for oral health. A pinch of stevia powder can be used as a substitute for the xylitol in this recipe if you wish.

Sea salt – Pure sea salt is full of tooth-nourishing minerals, and is especially helpful in healing irritated gums.

Peppermint essential oil – This essential oil has antibacterial, antiseptic, and pain-relieving properties. Peppermint is said to be beneficial for mouth and gum infections (although you should consult your dentist if you suspect a serious condition). In addition, it adds a cool, minty fresh flavor to this tooth powder. If you don’t like peppermint you can substitute spearmint to create a different minty twist.

Lets take notes using Google-Keep

After a little peek-a-boo, Google has officially launched Keep, its note-taking service and app that lets users key-in quick notes and lists, and also attach pictures with them. The service is available online on Drive.google.com/keep and as an app for devices running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and above. The service will be integrated with Google Drive and users will be able to create and edit notes and lists directly through Drive in the coming weeks.

A Tamilan now Pope of Android

 The joke quickly made the rounds of Twitter: Top Google Inc. executive Sundar Pichai had been elected pope –- of Android.

There were no puffs of white smoke as there were for Pope Francis, just a blog post Wednesday from Google co-founder and Chief Executive Larry Page announcing a major changing of the guard at the Internet giant.

Pichai had been tapped to run the world's most popular mobile operating system. He is taking over from Andy Rubin, who has stepped down as head of Android. Pichai's new job -- making sure nothing slows Android's momentum -- has thrust him into the spotlight.

"I know Sundar will do a tremendous job doubling down on Android as we work to push the ecosystem forward," Page said in the post.

Pichai's ascension comes at a crucial time for Android. Its growth has begun to flatten, and Google executives have begun to worry about Samsung Electronics Co.'s dominance of Android. The South Korean company sells about 40% of the gadgets that use Android software and is about to unveil the highly anticipated Galaxy S4.

Some see Pichai's takeover of Android as a signal that Google wants to coordinate or merge its two operating systems: Chrome and Android. Pichai is also the senior vice president of Chrome.

Pichai has turned the Chrome browser into a breakout success, giving Internet Explorer and Firefox a real run for their money.

"In 2008, people asked whether the world really needed another browser. Today Chrome has hundreds of millions of happy users and is growing fast, thanks to its speed, simplicity and security," Page wrote.

Under Pichai, the Chrome operating system has found its way into products such as the Chromebook Pixel.

"Sundar has a talent for creating products that are technically excellent yet easy to use — and he loves a big bet," Page said.

Pichai made his bet on Google when he joined the company in 2004. He had worked at Applied Materials and McKinsey & Co. He got his bachelor's degree in technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, a master's degree in science from Stanford University and a master of business administration degree from Wharton.

He gained more visibility in 2011 when Twitter tried to poach him to lead product. Pichai decided to stay with Google.

BGC Partners analyst Colin Gillis said Pichai has a weighty responsibility.

"He had better not screw it up," Gillis said. "Android is a big success right now."
