Awake Morning Magically by Yogic Techniques

 Upon waking up in the morning: Remember to express gratitude for having been 'born' into another day as your first thought upon waking up. Take both your palms and place them before your face. Imagine your left hand to be the presence of your mother and the right hand to be the presence of your father. Then place your palms gently over your eyelids and express your love, gratitude and respect to your father and mother. Acknowledge your father and mother as two Divine entities that gave birth to you. Bring your awareness to your body and express gratitude to the Divine for all that you are.

Cut into the wedges of the end of each running thought and the beginning of each thought by seeking your Source. Reciting a mantra in silence or aloud helps. Dedicate your day to the Source and gently bring your thought to the present moment.

Drinking Water:  Drink lots of water immediately. The art of drinking lots of water is to ensure that the water is room temperature or slightly warm. Visualize your stomach as a huge pot capable of holding large capacity of water as you drink water. Drink the water without tasting it. When we do not taste water we are able to drink a larger quantity of water. After drinking water, rub your stomach gently clockwise. Start with the belly button at the center with each circular motion proceeding outwards in a spiral motion with one palm over the other. When going through your bowel movements, visualize the part below your navel in pink color. This will help your bowel movements.

Our Yoga:

Sun Salutation: Start your yoga ideally with a warm up Sun Salutation. The Sun Salutation is highly recommended to enable a daily routine of yoga. Due to the simplicity in the sequence of postures it is easy to set our daily routine with Sun Salutation by ourselves. Within just 10 minutes, even if a few rounds of Sun Salutation is accomplished at the start of the day, we are kept inspired with a higher level of metabolism throughout the day.

First round of yoga- Bring your awareness to your body in the first round of Sun Salutation. Enjoy your Sun Salutation as though you are giving yourself a massage. Be tender, loving and kind to yourself. Visualize a cat stretching itself- feel yourself doing yoga enjoying your body.

The Sun Salutation contains nearly all the essential awakening vital energies with each pose holding vast wisdom and a journey within itself pose to pose. We can never reach a point in time where the learning stops while doing Sun Salutation. For example- the Downward Dog posture in Sun Salutation is to enable rejuvenative energies to flow when we visualize our body to be the vast infinite sky above or the Namaste (Anjali Mudra) posture at the start and end of Sun Salutation as to acknowledge ourselves to be the Divine as Spirit in the body. Yogic Breathing:  During every inhale through the process of our daily hatha yoga we take a deep inhale of breath all the way below the navel. This is the way we breathe when we are little children and slowly we forget this deeply inhaled tranquilizing breath of harmony as we become adults. Hold the inhaled breath and gently squeeze the muscles of the muladhara chakra- between the anus and the urinary tract in the retention of breath. Visualize a lamp lit in the retention of breath.  In the exhale, feel the upward moving energies nourish your lower back, straightening your spinal cord from the tail bone. Slowly let your exhales open your shoulder blades as you visualize your breath opening your heart.

Garland of breath- Sages mention of how each long exhale is connected with the inhale and the retention to achieve a steady flow of directed thoughts. Breath slowly becomes like a garland and our awareness maintains this interconnected breath as we go about doing our asanas, pose to pose.

The Experience:  As we do our yoga postures begin to identify ourselves as the body, then as the mind and slowly as the Spirit. Gradually, our experience of being the Spirit allows us the joys of the “higher perch”. This higher perch within ourselves with the experience of being the Spirit enables us to be in the moment of “now” through the joy we derive in our yoga.

When we experience the joy of “being” in our yoga, the body and mind absorbs the good energies of our happiness. We become aware of the higher perspective through the joys of being in the moment. Our mind becomes fertile to the thinking process due to the clarity of thoughts we attain and within the clear mind is the state of ‘ananda’, the undiluted bliss as joy.  Being joyful is being connected to Source, the goal of yoga.

The
Union: Satchidananda is one of the beautiful names for God, to describe Lord Siva, the Eternal Yogi within ourselves. Satchidananda means, Bliss Formed. The Sages, mention that our body and mind becomes the form of love when we hold the experience of joy. Being Satchidananda is being one with God, our mind and body dissolved in love.

Benefits of Pranayama

Apart from regular exercise and eating right, the state of one’s mind is quite crucial for weight loss. Pranayama is an ancient Indian practice that many people, world overattribute their health and fit body to. ‘Prana’ in Sanskrit means basic life force or energy and ‘Ayama’ means to control or regulate. Prananyamaessentially involves controlling the drift of life force within us through breathing techniques. Pranayama affects all spheres of life; it enhances both mental and physical well being. By following some simple principles and techniques, everyone can enjoy the many benefits that Pranayama has to offer. The simple concept of pranayama is thatfully oxygenated blood is taken to every cell in the body so that prana is carried everywhere.
Pranayama has been known to relievestress, depression and hypertension; the very evil factors that add to binge eating and which also make weight loss tough. With regular practice, Pranayama also gives us a sense of well being and a more positive outlook towards ourselves and the world around us. It is very important to believe that you are capable of losing weight and thisconfidence and enthusiasm becomes a part of us with pranayama.
Pranayama relaxes the body and mind so that you feel refreshed and rejuvenated, this way comfort food or high calorie food cravings will not occur frequently. It also improves digestion process so that nutrients are broken down better and body stays healthy and robust. Pranayama techniques help in augmenting the BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), which accounts for the amount of energy expended by us while at rest. Every aspect, like this one goes a long way in accelerating weight loss. The results are eventual and not drastic, which is always a healthier way to lose weight permanently.
Muscles and joints become less stiff with pranayama; it also thoroughly oxygenates every organ and muscle, increasing our capacity to exercise. What is even better is that with pranayama, the body seldom feels drained and fatigued after strenuous exercise, thereby allowing us to do even those last few crunches too without having to feel like it’s a herculean task.
The Pranayama postures and techniques help in purifying blood and flushing out toxins and wastes from the body. Skin starts to look so much clearer and the immune system gets strengthened too. With pranayama, a better control of our mind and body is handed over to us. You will start to feel light and agile; your hands will grab the healthy snack and not the oily, calorie loaded stuff. You will experience better rest while sleeping and better concentration while workingby practicing pranayama devotedly.
Patience and meticulous dedication are important for practices like Yoga and Pranayama because they don’t show results over night. Including pranayama in our regime is a holistic approach towards weight loss, because its benefits are manifold. It not only directly accelerates weigh loss due to its physiological and bio chemical influence, but also gives us the right attitude and motivation towards shedding those extra kilos.

2012: Beginning of the End or Why the World Won't End?

Remember the Y2K scare? It came and went without much of a whimper because of adequate planning and analysis of the situation. Impressive movie special effects aside, Dec. 21, 2012, won't be the end of the world as we know. It will, however, be another winter solstice.

Much like Y2K, 2012 has been analyzed and the science of the end of the Earth thoroughly studied. Contrary to some of the common beliefs out there, the science behind the end of the world quickly unravels when pinned down to the 2012 timeline. Below, NASA Scientists answer several questions that we're frequently asked regarding 2012.

Question (Q): Are there any threats to the Earth in 2012? Many Internet websites say the world will end in December 2012.
Answer (A): Nothing bad will happen to the Earth in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.

Q: What is the origin of the prediction that the world will end in 2012?
A: The story started with claims that Nibiru, a supposed planet discovered by the Sumerians, is headed toward Earth. This catastrophe was initially predicted for May 2003, but when nothing happened the doomsday date was moved forward to December 2012. Then these two fables were linked to the end of one of the cycles in the ancient Mayan calendar at the winter solstice in 2012 -- hence the predicted doomsday date of December 21, 2012.

Q: Does the Mayan calendar end in December 2012?
A: Just as the calendar you have on your kitchen wall does not cease to exist after December 31, the Mayan calendar does not cease to exist on December 21, 2012. This date is the end of the Mayan long-count period but then -- just as your calendar begins again on January 1 -- another long-count period begins for the Mayan calendar.

Q: Could phenomena occur where planets align in a way that impacts Earth?
A: There are no planetary alignments in the next few decades, Earth will not cross the galactic plane in 2012, and even if these alignments were to occur, their effects on the Earth would be negligible. Each December the Earth and sun align with the approximate center of the Milky Way Galaxy but that is an annual event of no consequence.

"There apparently is a great deal of interest in celestial bodies, and their locations and trajectories at the end of the calendar year 2012. Now, I for one love a good book or movie as much as the next guy. But the stuff flying around through cyberspace, TV and the movies is not based on science. There is even a fake NASA news release out there..."
- Don Yeomans, NASA senior research scientist
Q: Is there a planet or brown dwarf called Nibiru or Planet X or Eris that is approaching the Earth and threatening our planet with widespread destruction?
A: Nibiru and other stories about wayward planets are an Internet hoax. There is no factual basis for these claims. If Nibiru or Planet X were real and headed for an encounter with the Earth in 2012, astronomers would have been tracking it for at least the past decade, and it would be visible by now to the naked eye. Obviously, it does not exist. Eris is real, but it is a dwarf planet similar to Pluto that will remain in the outer solar system; the closest it can come to Earth is about 4 billion miles.

Q: What is the polar shift theory? Is it true that the earth’s crust does a 180-degree rotation around the core in a matter of days if not hours?
A: A reversal in the rotation of Earth is impossible. There are slow movements of the continents (for example Antarctica was near the equator hundreds of millions of years ago), but that is irrelevant to claims of reversal of the rotational poles. However, many of the disaster websites pull a bait-and-switch to fool people. They claim a relationship between the rotation and the magnetic polarity of Earth, which does change irregularly, with a magnetic reversal taking place every 400,000 years on average. As far as we know, such a magnetic reversal doesn’t cause any harm to life on Earth. A magnetic reversal is very unlikely to happen in the next few millennia, anyway.

The Blue Marble: Next GenerationEarth, as seen in the Blue Marble: Next Generation collection of images, showing the color of the planet's surface in high resolution. This image shows South America from September 2004. Q: Is the Earth in danger of being hit by a meteor in 2012?
A: The Earth has always been subject to impacts by comets and asteroids, although big hits are very rare. The last big impact was 65 million years ago, and that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Today NASA astronomers are carrying out a survey called the Spaceguard Survey to find any large near-Earth asteroids long before they hit. We have already determined that there are no threatening asteroids as large as the one that killed the dinosaurs. All this work is done openly with the discoveries posted every day on the NASA NEO Program Office website, so you can see for yourself that nothing is predicted to hit in 2012.

Q: How do NASA scientists feel about claims of pending doomsday?
A: For any claims of disaster or dramatic changes in 2012, where is the science? Where is the evidence? There is none, and for all the fictional assertions, whether they are made in books, movies, documentaries or over the Internet, we cannot change that simple fact. There is no credible evidence for any of the assertions made in support of unusual events taking place in December 2012.

› About super volcanoes

Q: Is there a danger from giant solar storms predicted for 2012?
A: Solar activity has a regular cycle, with peaks approximately every 11 years. Near these activity peaks, solar flares can cause some interruption of satellite communications, although engineers are learning how to build electronics that are protected against most solar storms. But there is no special risk associated with 2012. The next solar maximum will occur in the 2012-2014 time frame and is predicted to be an average solar cycle, no different than previous cycles throughout history.

Raghavendra Swamy speech

On Dwitiya Day of Sravana Krishna Paksha in 1671, Raghavendra Swami gave a soul-stirring speech in Kannada&Telugu to hundreds of devotees who had gathered to watch the event. Some quotes from that speech are as follows -

  •     "Without right living, right thinking will never come. Right living is performing one's ordained duties according to one's station in life without hankering the after fruits of the actions and on the other hand offering all one's activities to the Lord. This is real sadachara (right living). This is real karma yoga."
  •     "Social work done for the good of worthy people should also be considered as the Lord's worship. In short, our life itself is a worship. Every action is a puja. This life is precious. Every second of our life is precious. Not even a second that has gone will come back. Listening to the right shastras and always remembering Him is the highest duty."
  •     "Always keep away from people who merely perform miracles without following the shastras and yet call themselves God or guru. I have performed miracles, and so have great persons like Srimadvacharya. These are based on yoga siddhi and the shastras. There is no fraud or trickery at all. These miracles were performed only to show the greatness of God and the wonderful powers that one can attain with His grace. "
  •     "Right knowledge (jnana) is greater than any miracle. Without this no real miracle can take place. Any miracle performed without this right knowledge is only sorcery. No good will come to those who perform such miracles and also those who believe in them."
  •     "Have devotion to the Lord. This devotion should never be blind faith. Accepting the Lord's supremacy wholeheartedly is true devotion. Blind faith is not devotion. It is only stupidity. We should have devotion, not only for the Lord, but also for all other deities and preceptors in keeping with their status."

After this speech, Sri Raghavendra entered the Brindavana specially constructed for him with stone brought from Madavara village, near Manchale. Per his advice these stones were sanctified by Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana's footsteps when they visited the village during Treta Yuga.

He had advised his disciples to start arranging slabs around him once the japamala rolling by fingers in his hand become still.

He began reciting the pranava mantra and slipped into deep samadhi. Once his japamala became still, his disciples arranged the slabs up to his head and then, as per his earlier instructions, they placed a copper box containing 1200 Lakshminarayana saligramas that had been specially brought from Gandaki river in Nepal. Then they placed the covering slab over it and filled it with earth. They poured twelve thousand varahas (abhisheka) over the brindavan that they had built

Salary Hike in India 2012

Employees in India are likely to get this year a salary increase of 11.9%, putting the country on the top for tenth year in a row in terms of pay hikes within the Asia Pacific region, a survey showed on Tuesday.

As per the survey conducted by global human resources consulting and outsourcing firm Aon Hewitt, the salary hikes for India in 2012 would decline marginally from 12.6% in 2011 due to a cautious approach by employers, but it would still figure among the highest in the world.
According to its annual India Salary Increase Survey released here on Tuesday, the projected pay hikes in indicate a positive, yet cautious, outlook by the organisations amid an uncertain economic environment.
India would see the highest salary increase in the Asia Pacific region, followed by China and the Philippines, which are likely to see 9.5% and 6.9% salary hikes, respectively, in 2012.
India has topped the list in terms of salary hikes for tenth consecutive year within Asia Pacific region.
Among other Asia Pacific nations, Australia is likely to see a modest 4.6% hike, Hong Kong 5%, Japan 2.85, Malaysia 6.2% and Singapore 4.8%.

“We are seeing encouraging signs in recent weeks on business sentiments,” said Sandeep Chaudhary, practice leader, Compensation Consulting at Aon Hewitt.
“While organizations across industries are keeping a keen and watchful eye on this oscillating macro-economic environment, the number reiterates that organizations are taking a long-term view on talent,” he added.
In India, the general/entry level staff are likely to get 11.8% salary hike, while junior manager level will see 12.35, middle management 12% and senior management 11.15 increase this year.
The survey covered 550 organisations, representing 19 primary and 31 sub-sectors, and was conducted over a three-month period from November 2011 to January 2012.
In terms of sectors, pharmaceutical space is likely to witness a 13.35 salary hike for 2012, followed by engineering design/services projects at 13%.
Infrastructure with 12.95 and heavy engineering and FMCG sectors with 12.45 hike would continue to get higher salary increases than the country-average for the second year in a row.
The Information Technology (IT) and outsourcing sectors would see salary hikes of 11.9% and 11.8%, respectively, despite the continuing concerns over the impact of a weak global economy.
Telecom and Financial Institutions are projected to see lowest salary increases for 2012 at 11% and 10%, respectively, plagued by various regulatory hurdles, policy issues and the slowdown in the global economy.
Salaries for critical talent are projected to increase by 15.1% this year, which would be higher by over three percentage points than the overall average, as India Inc is concentrating efforts on identifying top talent and rewarding them accordingly, Aon Hewitt said.

Windows 8 First Look

Let's take a first look into the Windows 8 platform. Jensen Harris, director of PM from Windows User Experience channel gives the first demo on the Windows 8 interface.

When I say Windows 8 Demo, it's a standard OS for all upcoming Windows Devices (PCs and Laptops including the upcoming Windows Phone 8). So, the following demo shows you a sneak peek into what experience users will get on a Windows Mobile Phone 8 (will most probably be a tweaked light version of the same Windows 8 OS).

Key things to notice as you watch:

  • Apps form a tile-based Start screen fully customizable and scalable with full-screen views
  • Each app shows LIVE updates (new message, fb notifications, counters, timers...)
  • Fast switch between screens and apps
  • Move, replace, resize icons with just finger taps
  • Multi-touch flow, mutli-apps running on the background
  • Most apps rely web connections, updates on the background utilizing HTML 5 and JS
  • Latest IE Explorer, fast optimized browsing and smooth touch flow

Looking at the demo, i already feel Windows 8 will definitely be a huge success. My only concern with this design is Performance. I cannot estimate the minimum Memory requirement to run a Windows 8 OS ? Tablet PCs aren't yet as powerful as desktops or high end laptops. Same holds true for Mobile Phones.

Next-generation Apple smartphone - iPhone PRO

A new concept created for the next-generation Apple smartphone titled iPhone PRO has surfaced and it displays the device with a 4.5-inch display.

It was created by designer Choi Jinyoung, who also included a 1.2-megapixel 3D camera, mount for DSLR lenses, a removable hard disk, and a built-in projector system in his proposed design for the sixth-generation iPhone.

Jinyoung's design looks similar to the current look of the iPhone 4S, however the screen size has been increased to 4.5-inches making it look like a cross between the Galaxy S2 and iPhone.

WHY WE SHOULD VISIT TEMPLES?

(Scientific Reason) There are thousands of temples all over India in different size, shape and locations but not all of them are considered to be built the Vedic way. Generally, a temple should be located at a place where earth's magnetic wave path passes through densely. It can be in the outskirts of a town/village or city, or in middle of the dwelling place, or on a hilltop. The essence of visiting a temple is discussed here.

Now, these temples are located strategically at a place where the positive energy is abundantly available from the magnetic and electric wave distributions of north/south pole thrust. The main idol is placed in the core center of the temple, known as "*Garbhagriha*" or *Moolasthanam*. In fact, the temple structure is built after the idol has been placed. This *Moolasthanam* is where earth’s magnetic waves are found to be maximum. We know that there are some copper plates, inscribed with Vedic scripts, buried beneath the Main Idol. What are they really? No, they are not God’s / priests’ flash cards when they forget the *shlokas*. The copper plate absorbs earth’s magnetic waves and radiates it to the surroundings. Thus a person regularly visiting a temple and walking clockwise around the Main Idol receives the beamed magnetic waves and his body absorbs it. This is a very slow process and a regular visit will let him absorb more of this positive energy. Scientifically, it is the positive energy that we all require to have a healthy life.

Further, the Sanctum is closed on three sides. This increases the effect of all energies. The lamp that is lit radiates heat energy and also provides light inside the sanctum to the priests or *poojaris* performing the pooja. The ringing of the bells and the chanting of prayers takes a worshipper into trance, thus not letting his mind waver. When done in groups, this helps people forget personal problems for a while and relieve their stress. The fragrance from the flowers, the burning of camphor give out the chemical energy further aiding in a different good aura. The effect of all these energies is supplemented by the positive energy from the idol, the copper plates and utensils in the *Moolasthan*am /*Garbagraham*. *Theertham*, the “holy” water used during the pooja to wash the idol is not plain water cleaning the dust off an idol. It is a concoction of Cardamom,*Karpura* (Benzoin), zaffron / saffron, *Tulsi* (Holy Basil), Clove, etc...Washing the idol is to charge the water with the magnetic radiations thus increasing its medicinal values. Three spoons of this holy water is distributed to devotees. Again, this water is mainly a source of magneto-therapy. Besides, the clove essence protects one from tooth decay, the saffron & *Tulsi* leafs protects one from common cold and cough, cardamom and *Pachha Karpuram* (benzoin), act as mouth fresheners. It is proved that *Theertham* is a very good blood purifier, as it is highly energized. Hence it is given as *prasadam* to the devotees. This way, one can claim to remain healthy by regularly visiting the Temples. This is why our elders used to suggest us to offer prayers at the temple so that you will be cured of many ailments. They were not always superstitious. Yes, in a few cases they did go overboard when due to ignorance they hoped many serious diseases could be cured at temples by deities. When people go to a temple for the *Deepaaraadhana*, and when the doors open up, the positive energy gushes out onto the persons who are there. The water that is sprinkled onto the assemblages passes on the energy to all. This also explains why men are not allowed to wear shirts at a few temples and women are requested to wear more ornaments during temple visits. It is through these jewels (metal) that positive energy is absorbed by the women. Also, it is a practice to leave newly purchased jewels at an idol’s feet and then wear them with the idol’s blessings. This act is now justified after reading this article. This act of “seeking divine blessings” before using any new article, like books or pens or automobiles may have stemmed from this through mere observation.

Energy lost in a day’s work is regained through a temple visit and one is refreshed slightly. The positive energy that is spread out in the entire temple and especially around where the main idol is placed, are simply absorbed by one's body and mind. Did you know, every Vaishnava(Vishnu devotees), “must” visit a Vishnu temple twice every day in their location. Our practices are NOT some hard and fast rules framed by 1 man and his followers or God’s words in somebody’s dreams. All the rituals, all the practices are, in reality, well researched, studied and scientifically backed thesis which form the ways of nature to lead a good healthy life.

The scientific and research part of the practices are well camouflaged as “elder’s instructions” or “granny’s teaching’s” which should be obeyed as a mark of respect so as to once again, avoid stress to the mediocre brains.

DRINK WATER ON EMPTY STOMACH

It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven its value. We publish below a description of use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases:
Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.
METHOD OF TREATMENT
1. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water
2. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minute
3.. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.
4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours
5. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.
6. The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can enjoy a healthy life.
The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/reduce main diseases:
1. High Blood Pressure (30 days)
2. Gastric (10 days)
3. Diabetes (30 days)
4. Constipation (10 days)
5. Cancer (180 days)
6. TB (90 days)
7. Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwards – daily..
This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment you may have to urinate a few times.
It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life. Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active.
This makes sense .. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals ..not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain...
For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.
It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.
Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine.
Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks:
· Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting,
· Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
· You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.
· Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.
· 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.
· Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive...

SQL Query Optimization

Sql Statements are used to retrieve data from the database. We can get same results by writing different sql queries. But use of the best query is important when performance is considered. So you need to sql query tuning based on the requirement. Here is the list of queries which we use reqularly and how these sql queries can be optimized for better performance.

SQL Tuning/SQL Optimization Techniques:

1) The sql query becomes faster if you use the actual columns names in SELECT statement instead of than '*'.
For Example: Write the query as
SELECT id, first_name, last_name, age, subject FROM student_details;
Instead of:
SELECT * FROM student_details;

2) HAVING clause is used to filter the rows after all the rows are selected. It is just like a filter. Do not use HAVING clause for any other purposes.
For Example: Write the query as
SELECT subject, count(subject)
FROM student_details
WHERE subject != 'Science'
AND subject != 'Maths'
GROUP BY subject;
Instead of:
SELECT subject, count(subject)
FROM student_details
GROUP BY subject
HAVING subject!= 'Vancouver' AND subject!= 'Toronto';

3) Sometimes you may have more than one subqueries in your main query. Try to minimize the number of subquery block in your query.
For Example: Write the query as
SELECT name
FROM employee
WHERE (salary, age ) = (SELECT MAX (salary), MAX (age)
FROM employee_details)
AND dept = 'Electronics';
Instead of:
SELECT name
FROM employee
WHERE salary = (SELECT MAX(salary) FROM employee_details)
AND age = (SELECT MAX(age) FROM employee_details)
AND emp_dept = 'Electronics';

4) Use operator EXISTS, IN and table joins appropriately in your query.
a) Usually IN has the slowest performance.
b) IN is efficient when most of the filter criteria is in the sub-query.
c) EXISTS is efficient when most of the filter criteria is in the main query.
For Example: Write the query as
Select * from product p
where EXISTS (select * from order_items o
where o.product_id = p.product_id)
Instead of:
Select * from product p
where product_id IN
(select product_id from order_items

5) Use EXISTS instead of DISTINCT when using joins which involves tables having one-to-many relationship.
For Example: Write the query as
SELECT d.dept_id, d.dept
FROM dept d
WHERE EXISTS ( SELECT 'X' FROM employee e WHERE e.dept = d.dept);
Instead of:
SELECT DISTINCT d.dept_id, d.dept
FROM dept d,employee e
WHERE e.dept = e.dept;

6) Try to use UNION ALL in place of UNION.
For Example: Write the query as
SELECT id, first_name
FROM student_details_class10
UNION ALL
SELECT id, first_name
FROM sports_team;
Instead of:
SELECT id, first_name, subject
FROM student_details_class10
UNION
SELECT id, first_name
FROM sports_team;

7) Be careful while using conditions in WHERE clause.
For Example: Write the query as
SELECT id, first_name, age FROM student_details WHERE age > 10;
Instead of:
SELECT id, first_name, age FROM student_details WHERE age != 10;
Write the query as
SELECT id, first_name, age
FROM student_details
WHERE first_name LIKE 'Chan%';
Instead of:
SELECT id, first_name, age
FROM student_details
WHERE SUBSTR(first_name,1,3) = 'Cha';
Write the query as
SELECT id, first_name, age
FROM student_details
WHERE first_name LIKE NVL ( :name, '%');
Instead of:
SELECT id, first_name, age
FROM student_details
WHERE first_name = NVL ( :name, first_name);
Write the query as
SELECT product_id, product_name
FROM product
WHERE unit_price BETWEEN MAX(unit_price) and MIN(unit_price)
Instead of:
SELECT product_id, product_name
FROM product
WHERE unit_price >= MAX(unit_price)
and unit_price <= MIN(unit_price)
Write the query as
SELECT id, name, salary
FROM employee
WHERE dept = 'Electronics'
AND location = 'Bangalore';
Instead of:
SELECT id, name, salary
FROM employee
WHERE dept || location= 'ElectronicsBangalore';
Use non-column expression on one side of the query because it will be processed earlier.
Write the query as
SELECT id, name, salary
FROM employee
WHERE salary < 25000;
Instead of:
SELECT id, name, salary
FROM employee
WHERE salary + 10000 < 35000;
Write the query as
SELECT id, first_name, age
FROM student_details
WHERE age > 10;
Instead of:
SELECT id, first_name, age
FROM student_details
WHERE age NOT = 10;
8) Use DECODE to avoid the scanning of same rows or joining the same table repetitively. DECODE can also be made used in place of GROUP BY or ORDER BY clause.
For Example: Write the query as
SELECT id FROM employee
WHERE name LIKE 'Ramesh%'
and location = 'Bangalore';
Instead of:
SELECT DECODE(location,'Bangalore',id,NULL) id FROM employee
WHERE name LIKE 'Ramesh%';
9) To store large binary objects, first place them in the file system and add the file path in the database.
10) To write queries which provide efficient performance follow the general SQL standard rules.
a) Use single case for all SQL verbs
b) Begin all SQL verbs on a new line
c) Separate all words with a single space
d) Right or left aligning verbs within the initial SQL verb
